This maybe a stupid question...
I noticed when you scan the network for the first time, it installs a service on each computer
Is this going to be a problem IF we decide to quit using the software.
I know we had another software (audit wizard)that did this and when we quit using it, everytime the computer was rebooted, it would hang looking for that service. So, we had to go around manually & disable it.
BTW...I love this software :)
Easy to use !!
Actually, you can have a look at FAQ #15 for the details of what exactly is deployed. However, I can assure you that all these files are not stored there for good and are automatically deleted after scanning. Next time they are deployed again.
Probably someone may also consider this incorrect :)
Not all software like this that don't install a service is the best either. I tried the free Spiceworks software and couldn't get it to work on all my computers. Sure it worked on some, but not all. Not even clearapps works on everything, but it works on more than Spiceworks. and spiceworks never installs a service, but then again. Free software is nice, but not if you have trouble with it. I like this clearaps software too! :)
Yeah, we come across nodes that cannot be scanned from time to time as well. And unfortunately in most cases that is related to node's configuration: sharing model, firewall, open ports, WMI config (the most sensitive part), DNS, etc, etc, etc. But we are ready to work on every such case with our clients. Please, let me know the details, and we will definitely help you troubleshoot and stabilize scanning.
From what I see you have to make your computer just about perfect for it to not use that service. I got it to work on a couple PCs without the service, but that's it. I don't see what the problem is. What's wrong with the pia service being installed? WMI Service is a service too and that's installed on all your computers, just by microsoft and not clearapps.
Just talked to our devs. You are right, the file is left in the scanned system to prevent repeated deployment the next time when the node needs to be scanned. But the service itself is not active. It's only activated when the scan is re-initiated again.
Thanks for your comments!
I sorry, I guess I didn't read it. Maybe I still don't understand, but that's ok :)
pcmac55: can you send your Scan Log to help@clearapps.com? Do you have Macs' scanning enabled in Settings?
