Asset Management
  • philphil June 2011

    Hi All
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on software for Asset Management purposes
We want to use the live data we get from NIA and import it into a pogram that you can also update manual entried (eg Assigned user - not username) etc?
    Thanks,

Hm... and what stops you? Did you check the user guide for the details on command-line interface into Network Inventory Advisor?

Nothing is stopping us from doign so, would just like to know if their is any free software out there that would work well for this. It is more to have a client self-manage data that we have been able to pull out of their network using NIA.

Sorry, I'm still not sure which free software you are looking for exactly :)

    no probs.
We are looking for a program that does Asset Management only (no disocvery etc).
This needs to have Software licences, Devices and posibly other assests as seperate entries.
We then need to run reports that pick up a specific pice of software and then the assets it is on with asset details like CPU etc.
Just wondering if anyone knows of some software that can do this

I suppose you can use a simple MDB for your needs.

There is a "free" one called Spiceworks, but it has ads (AdWare) and is really slow compared to ClearApps. It is free though.

Slow, ad-driven, doesn't always work, not able to scan many nodes which can actually be scanned OK with Network Inventory Advisor... but hey... no offense here.

I completely agree! There is also Open-AudIT (free, open source) that also doesn't work as well as ClearApps. But the guy did ask for "free" programs. Free doesn't always mean good.
