We have been inventorying our network using NIA. While most machine s seem to scan with no problems we are having an isse adding linux nodes to the system.
I have added 3 linux machine without issue but cannot add a further machine, when using the machines root login for authentication I receive the error: Connection to SSH server failed with error: 87:997
SSH is installed and enabled, Scanning is done via IP address (static) and does see the machine.
Additionaly the linux nodes I have scanned - I have set a login for the node itself as our domain credentials will not allow access but each time I go to rescan the node I get the error - Unable to use current login, this option has been unticked in settings and the correct details added per node.
Any ideas on either issue?
Thanks
Which Linux OS are these nodes running exactly?
Also, can you try scanning using another user account (not root)?
Hi Jeff
The machines have been running different linux distros, Knoppix 6.2 (both live and full install), Fedora 14, Ubuntu 10. The machine we have not been able to scan was running Fedora 14 but we have scanned other machines running the same distro. We have also used both the root login and local user logins.
thanks
Hold on, please. Talking to our test lab.
No problems. Out of interest I'm adding firewall rules to the mcafee EPO server and could do with knowing the physical location of the scanning agents on the machine. Am I right in adding the path as: c:\windows\system32\piaservice.exe as each scan throws up a firewall message about NIA uninstall reg key, the scan is allowed, we just want to remove the message now and need the executables loation to do so.
Thanks
Preparing a special build with test log, to see why scanning of Linux did not start in your case. Seems like something related to SSH server running on your Linux node.
Almost there, we'll be sending you the debug build within a couple of days. My apologies for the delay.
Hi!
I have the same problem. How can I fix it? Thanks.
Fabiano, please, see my reply via email
Which version and build of Network Inventory Advisor are you using? Which Linux exactly produces the error? Are you sure there's an SSH daemon running there?
