Access Denied when attempting to scan Windows 7 Professional client
  • BDCBDC December 2010

I installed Network Inventory Advisor version 3.9.1507. I have been able to successfully configure and scan a Windows XP Pro machine but every time I try to scan a Windows 7 laptop it fails. I am told Access Denied.

I have attempted to add Firewall exceptions for allowing file & print sharing for inbound, Remote Desktop but never found uPnP setting option in the firewall. I verified sharing and security model was set to Classic-local users authenticate as themselves.

Currently I am requesting NIA to scan this laptop specifically. I enter login credentials of the admin account I created and give NIA the ip address. NIA sees the machine on the network and attempts to connect.

What must I do to allow scanning of Windows 7 machines?

Ok, after much research I have been able to determine that it is UAC that is causing the problem. But I do not want to fully disable UAC on all user accounts. I saw the post FAQ about not wanting to disable for all vista accounts and the answer implied that the UAC could be disabled for a single account.

I have been searching the registry based on the hint in the answer and even looked at the MS web page that was linked to but so far I have been unable to determine how this can be done.

Any assistance in resolving this issue without disabling UAC for all user accounts would be appreciated.

    Thank you,
