How to write a Logon script to retrieve values from the registry ?
  • promanuspromanus September 2010

Hi, the software I'm interested in retieving the names / versions of are not listed. The software vendor is IBM and they have a created an 'Installation Manager' application that manages installations on the local machines that bypasses the usual windows registration. I do however know the location of the information that this appliction holds in the registry. So I guess what I want to know is how to write a logon scipt that accesses the registry and when imported back into NIA and appends entries to the exiting Software reports ... an example would be best. Many thanks

Whoops, ok scrub trying to read from the registry .. the list of installed applications is held in a .xml file. So ... can anyone provide an example of reading an xml/text file and formatting it in such a manner so as the applications appear in Network advisor's list of software ?

    Hello,

Unfortunately, Network Inventory Advisor does not allow to import files that contain list of applications taken from registry.

Please, note that software titles are collected based on uninstallation section of the registry. Therefore, you can go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall at the scanned PC and create a key with your product name. Then, please rescan target computer.

That's not exactly the task of Network Inventory Advisor. Did you try to google for it?
