Firewall Issue
  • mastrondmastrond September 2010

I am using windows firewall on my pc's.. Have some computers that are not on our domain but have the same workgoup.
When I try to scan that pc with the firewall off it scans the computer no problem. With firewall on I get this error...
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Last snapshot used.

    Please Help
    Thanks

So this means that Windows Firewall blocks the connection from the scanning PC. You should configure the firewall, there's not much we can do to bypass it.

How do I configure the firewall. I am not sure what ports need to be open.

Okay I found on this site that these ports need to be open on the firewall.
Thanks all is working really good now.

    tcp 22 in
    udp 137 in
    tcp 139 in
    udp 138 in

Thanks for letting us know that all is well now. Windows Firewall can be very tricky in configuration.

    Is this a complete list?
I did the same but after turning the the FW back on with these exceptions I can not scan a machine.
    Thank you.

Which status is returned from this node?

    Hi Jeff,
    The same as mastrond's
    ------------
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Last snapshot used.
    ------------
I understand I am not a customer yet but I would like to have this working in demo before the purchase. Let me know if extending your support this far is an issue.
    Thank you.
