Hello Jeff,
I am trying to add 'AD structure' using N|A. But when I enter active directory ip address or name of domain controller ( \\ad4501 ) along with admin username & passoword,
I get error message saying:
"unable to connect Active Directory(error: The server is not operational"
What do I have to do to get it to connect so I can get Ad Structure?
Also How can I check total numbers of softwares licenses that have been installed on and see it on reports?
For example: I have 200 autocad licenses. But 180 licenses have been installed. How can i see the total 180 licenses on the report?
I appreciate help.
Thanks
Shaq
Which AD server are you running: Windows 2003, 2008, etc?
Is this the actual name of the AD controller? Does the same error happen when you enter it without any slashes?shaq said: ad4501
If you go to Network Summary -> All Software, you will see the number of certain software titles installed on your network, that's supposed to be the total number of licenses located by Network Inventory Advisor. Is this what you were looking for?shaq said: Also How can I check total numbers of softwares licenses that have been installed on and see it on reports?
Hello Jeff,
1) "Which AD server are you running: Windows 2003, 2008, etc?"
- AD server is windows 2003
2) "Is this the actual name of the AD controller? Does the same error happen when you enter it without any slashes?"
- Yes! is the the actual AD controller. I have tried other controllers as well but i am getting the same error. I also tried without 'slashes' and getting the same error.
3) "Also, try connecting to your AD server with Active Directory Explorer - are you getting the same error? "
- I can log in using 'AD explorer' just fine and can see AD structure. No errors.
4) "If you go to Network Summary -> All Software, you will see the number of certain software titles installed on your network, that's supposed to be the total number of licenses located by Network Inventory Advisor. Is this what you were looking for?"
- Yes that's what I was looking for and works great. I can see all the information that i need to see.
Q: Can we see the number of installed softwares and which users are using at the same time? Summary is showing only the total installed softwares not user.
The only time I can't connect to AD server with or without slashes when connecting thru N|A AD structure. I can log in directly on to AD fine as well.
I appreciate your help
Thanks
Shaq
This might work. We'll also see what can be causing the issue and update the topic asap.vic said: I got it to work by using username@domain
i.e. mcdonald@mrp.net.nz
"username@domain
i.e. mcdonald@mrp.net.nz"
Vic,
- Are you saying that in order to import AD structure, I have to enter "username@domain" where it says 'Enter IP address or name of domain controller" to import AD structure?
May be I didn't get what you meant by it, If I am not mistaken.
Do I have to setup up any permission or anything on Active Directory when using N|A to import AD structure? I can import AD Structure by using AD explorer fine.

Thanks for the screens. Our test lab is checking what can be done in this case. Please give us some time and we'll get back here with the update.
Shaq,
You need to enter username@domain and then password E.G.
this fails

This works

Jeff,
Is it possible to create a group, switch into it and then run a scan of a particular IO range and automatically save the findings within this group
Vic
Am I getting you right that you would just like to re-scan a group of nodes? Or build a group summary?vic said: Is it possible to create a group, switch into it and then run a scan of a particular IO range and automatically save the findings within this group
We have set up our IP addresses so we can tell the geographical location of the device.
What I would like to do is to run a scan of 10.78.16.2-254 which represents our Karapiro office and automatically list the results under the Karipiro group. At present all scans go to the default group and I have to transfer to the correct group.
Are these IP-addresses (10.78.16.2-254) grouped in a separate group in the network tree inside Network Inventory Advisor now? It seems to me that you are currently scanning an IP-range, while you need to do this only once, then place the needed nodes in a separate group, select it, click "Manage this group" (this step might be not needed) and click "build a group summary". Is this what you were looking for?
Hello Jeff,
AD structure is working now. I had to eliminate slashes before server name & didn't have to enter full domain name with user name.
User Name: TCO\username [don't need domain name to add with
Password: -----
DC address/Name: active_directory_name
And I can log in now.
Thanks
Shaq
