Automatic removal of old devices
  • pgregorypgregory July 2010

    Hi,
i have a situation in that we are in the process of replacing old computers with new ones.
The old ones are being scrapped.
But what is happening in NIA is that the old ones are still there and of course so is all the software licences etc
So when i look at licence counts for say MS Office , i have a misleading figure. as both are being counted.
i know we should go through and remove them manually, but as we are a global company then i cannot guarantee that
the IT Admin in say Mexico has remembered to do it.
Could i put a request in to have old computers removed after a certain amount of time of not being scanned, which could or could not be on a variable that could be changed.

    cheers

Why not rescan your network and set the snapshot's age parameter to say 7 days... so in 7 days the node will become "old" and needing a rescan. If it no longer scans, the new network summary will not have any details about it. Go to Settings -> General -> "Do not update node details until they are more than..."

We might also think of the feature to automatically mark some nodes as removed based on a certain criteria (the number of failed scans, etc). I'll let you know if we decide to add it in future releases.
