Manually adding software licenses for counting
  • mark0mark0 May 2010

    Hi!

Situation: For example I have 20 ESET Nod32 licenses and I have added the license count 20 also to "All Software" "Licenses" column. I automatically added 19 nodes (everyone has Nod32 installed) to Network Inventory advisor and the license count now shows me that I have one license of Nod32 to spare. Now I MANUALLY add one node and also add a custom data field and assign one Nod32 license for that node. Now is it possible that Network Inventory advisor understands that I add the on spare license to that node and automatically subtracts the license from the total count and if I look at the All software licenses column it shows me 0?

    Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion. We will consider adding feature that detects licenses which you specified in the custom fields of manually added assets.

Meanwhile, we would recommend you to export the agent utility (click "Export audit agent" button on the toolbar -> select "...manual scan without central repository" option) and perform the scan of twentieth node using a flash drive. Then, import the inventory data into NIA installed on your computer.

The problem is that few of our companies laptops are always with its' owners and they also use them for personal purpose. So they don't feel comfortable me auditing the inside of their computers. And frankly I don't care much what' in the computers, I just want to keep track the number of licensed software in the company.

But it's good to know you are considering the feature.

    Best regards,
    Marko

Just wanted to follow-up, that you actually can configure the agent to only scan for installed software. To accomplish that, just go to "Settings -> Windows reports" and configure "Categories in reports" to have only Software. Now when you export the agent utility, you'll have the XML (used by the agent to read the configuration when scanning nodes) tell the agent utility to scan for software only.
