Will I lose all the data NIA has already collected from the clients if I update? I am currently running version 3.6 .

Nope, you can install Network Inventory Advisor just above the previous copy. For your own confidence, you may backup the whole [information] folder, which can be found in NIA's installation directory. In this way you'll easily save all your settings and collected data in case anything goes wrong.
